Pre Season Training

11th March - 15 April

Join Richard and Graham, two of our senior sailing instructors for some pre season classroom training. This will be followed by some on the water sessions where the hard work in the classroom can be put in to practise!

Wednesday 11 March Before You Go Afloat: The Thinking & Prep

What should you be doing before you even leave the shore?
This session focuses on the planning and decision-making that sets you up for a good sail or race. We'll cover reading the weather forecast, understanding the course, choosing settings and sails, personal prep, and common mistakes to avoid before launching. Ideal for newer sailors and improvers, but a great refresher for anyone wanting to be more organised and confident afloat.

Wednesday 18 March From Launch to the Start Line

What happens between launching and the race start can make a huge difference.
This evening looks at everything from getting away cleanly from the slipway to arriving at the start line ready and in control. We'll talk through boat handling, warm-up routines, time management, checking the line, and simple starting tips to reduce stress and improve consistency. Aimed at newer and improving sailors, with practical tips useful for all levels.

Wednesday 25 March The Start to the First Mark

The race is on now what?
This session covers the crucial first leg, from the start signal to rounding the first mark. We'll explain key racing rules, basic right-of-way situations, wind shifts, tide awareness, and simple tactics to help you sail smarter (not harder). Perfect for newer sailors wanting to understand what's going on around them, and improvers looking to build confidence and make better decisions.

Putting It Into Practice On the Water (11,15,18th April, see website for times)

Following on from the classroom sessions, this is your chance to take what you've learned and put it into action on the water. These coached sailing sessions are designed to help newer and improving sailors build confidence, practice skills, and try things out in a supportive, low-pressure environment.

Instructors will be on hand to offer guidance, tips, and feedback throughout the session, with full rescue cover provided. Sail at your own pace, ask questions, and focus on turning theory into practical experience. All sailors are welcome.
