Race: Halfmoon Cup Race 1
Date: 4th May 2022
Conditions: SW, light winds (2-3)
Race Officer: Dave and Sophie
Safety Boat: Beadie and Heather
The afternoon rain eased, the wind picked up to a F2-3 SW and the sun appeared for the first Wednesday evening race of the season. Beadie and Heather were efficient in laying the course and, with all boats on the water and ready, the countdown was started 10 minutes early. Richard and Rob were on the line at the start in bright, almost warm sunshine. Lawrence, sailing single handed in a vision made up ground and finished the first lap at the same time as Rob, 20 seconds behind Richard. Mark and Darren in a wayfarer and Jacob, demonstrating some impressive roll tacking in his Tera, were close behind. With stormy looking clouds approaching from Westbrook the race officers and safety boat crew decided to shorten the race at the end of the second lap. Lawrence was first to cross the line 9 seconds ahead of Richard in gloomy cold conditions. All boats were off the water and back in the boat park before the rain hit.
