MYC Navigation Training Winter 2024-25

It's often asked What does a Sailing club do when you can't go sailing or in the Winter? Well, besides have a social drink in the bar or polishing the hull of your boat in an attempt to make it go faster, you could also learn how to navigate!! So that's precisely what several club members, both young and a bit older(!), have been doing on Tuesday evenings since the middle of November!
Our fabulous teachers Sue Anderson and Paul Norman have been quite the double act whilst introducing all sorts of topics, from - Charts and how to read them, Plotting Positions, Understanding a compass, Tides, Course to Steer, Buoyage, Electronic Navigation and Passage Planning and that's just so far! With sessions running through to mid-March there will be So much more to learn and remember!
The sessions have been superb, in such a relaxed and entertaining atmosphere with everyone really involved with the sessions. 3 of our outstanding Cadet sailors Stan, Annabel and Gray share stories and experiences with adult beginners and more experienced sailors every week, often with sweets, a brew, charts and equipment strewn across the clubhouse! It's safe to say there is often some head scratching going on, but as a group, we get the idea in the end!
