Race: Easter Egg Cup (4 races)

Date; 17/18th April 2022

Race Officer; Race 1 - Dave and Sue, Race 2 - Pat and Alyson

Safety Boat; Race 1 - Don and Kevin , Race 2 - Tony and Paul

Race 1 - Race briefing was led by Dave, a straight forward sausage course, the light winds made laying a windward mark quite challenging. Some slight confusion on the rounding direction ensued at the first mark leading to some lively "discussion" between racers and safety boat. Two interpretations of the course ensued, but with no gain from either direction racing continued with no collisions or casualties. Mac Dhoo lead the fleet round the course, great performances from Chris Hatcher (2nd), and Steve and Lynda in Sylvie (3rd).

Race 2 - A course designed to give the A-symmetric sailers a little bit more spinnaker time and a potential advantage over the traditional dinghies, more marks were put into play to create an M shaped course. The dropping winds meant that the advantage to the A-symmetric dinghies never became apparent. A spirited start from all racers, getting to the windward mark and realising no one knew where they were going. The shout from racers was that they would follow the safety boat.... All good! Unfortunately, after instructions from Dave (RO) that the safety boat may be leading them astray left the door open for the rest of the fleet to sneak past the leaders. Some excellent racing ensued between the Wayfarers and Visions with some tight racing and even tighter buoy rounding. Antony and Prue just managed to get past Chris in the Streaker on the finish line to secure first place by 8 seconds. Antony informed us he turned a corner with his daughter Prudence who declared she finally understands this racing thingy!

Race 3 - Pat lead the pre race briefing, a more familiar triangular course for today. Light winds for both races saw all starters on the line for the gun, Richard saw a space and nipped in close to the bouy pushing Peter shawyer out. Competitive racing continued for the whole course with a lot of jostling for position, the final results reflected this with 9 racers finishing within one minute on corrected time.

Race 4 - A close start from all racers with a tightly packed fleet to the windward mark. The wind dropped right off, only to find our sailors were more like seals rounding the first mark if the made it. We all came in paddling after abandoning the race after only one lap.

Great vibes in commodores corner after racing. Graham was giving spinnaker training to a rather thrilled Alyson. Osprey 918 "Madame Tsunami" was setting her main Sail with a view to winning next weeks race.
